20030228 baby names

you see, discussing baby names is not happy fun. so much pressure!

more balsa and serialbridge work. ah ah. not to mention, of course, ut2k3 *grin*

20030227 thursday

dear balsa, having a domain in the search line doesn't mean it's my domain, it means I use it alot. *zap*, you are now smarter. otoh one would think finding the dns domain name would be *easier*

20030226 midweek

for some reason balsa is playing sound despite the fact I told gnome not to. "wtf ?" but code is being written and the future is being formed, I must say I'm very happy with balsa2 at this point - kudos team!

see, Handspring sucks.

20030225 it's a boy

today was a very nice day. it even included further understanding of PalmOS. rain and all.

20030224 mondays

seems like i entered a black spiral of sleep. i can't get enough of it. whelp.

pawel released 2.0.9! i almost botched it but caught it on time and everything is well in the world!

your SUV fuels terrorists.

20030223 sunday

a fairly productive day. read Stuff about gmime and had small progress on serialbridge. even managed to squeeze in some house stuff and fishtank maintenance. go me.

20030222 news day

went off to see my new nephew. he's small, wrinkled and behaves pretty much like a fish. so damn cute :)

"discovered" newsisfree. neat concept, even neater if you make site using it a couple it with wml or hdml or whatever thinguie to make it treo happy.

the unwashed masses are fighting back against the 419 scammers. or at least, they think they are. unwashed masses and angry mobs are scary.

20030221 weekend

after aplying the DEbonus stuff on ut2k3 it doesn't seem all that bad. i still can't figure out if it's slower or faster. garrr.

some people impulse buy shoes. i impulse buy domains and webhosting accounts. this guys text ad on k5 caught my attention. and I just couldn't resist the 3usd/month account. now if only i could figure out what to do with it .. i'll probably used it has test pad for a new and improved site. or something :)
meanwhile, I decided i should probably move from pair to an EU based hosting. pair.com is *great*, rock solid and good professional support. however, I don't need that kind of service level :) and if I can get more bang for my bucks, great. european-webhost is looking good.

mental note: must buy gabriel cedes.

20030220 thursday

upgraded ut2k3 all the way to 2199. it got worse. grrrrr.

20030219 midweek

got a rather interesting letter from parque das naçla;ões, an invoice with payment limit marked yesterday. not only that but this people seem to live in 1970 and want payment via cheq in the mail. someone should tell them about our wonderfull atm network which allows us to pay bills simply by punching in a code. *gasp*. that would obviously be too easy.
tomorrow will be fun.

ever noticed how most planets in SG-1 speak english ? well, except the bad guys who speak something else of course.

so many bugs so little time

20030218 tuesday

finally got to the point where i can't stand sendmail and my b0rken machine name ploting against my email sending skillz. so i snatched postfix srpm from rh8, rebuilt it, fixed my domainname and now i'm full of email goodness. is this remarkable in any way ? only the facts that a) sendmail lost another customer and b) the only reason i used sendmail was lazyness

20030217 monday

it's monday. it's raining. i still have an head cold. this is *not* happy fun. there's no X-Files anymore either.

built rawhide gnome2.2 on rh8.0. it wasn't fun but it only took some --nodeps and minor spec wacking for metacity which aparently wanted some happy fun X features.
gnome2.2 goodness. woopass.

20030216 sunday, runny sunday

a very anoying headcold thwarted my plans for sunday productivity. instead i curled into bed with claudia, both us sneazing and damning up our noses.
running around doing mail all wacked out on mebocaine isn't particularly productive. Pawel otoh released balsa-2.0.8! go team!

did some minor fishtank maintenance. we got new fish! we bought 4 extra neons (extra as in, extra big) and 1 red trichogaster yesterday. the older trichogaster (a Trichogaster leeri - pearl gourami) is busy chasing then new one (Colisa lalia - red dwarf gourami) around the tank. baaddd fishy. baaaaad.

20030215 saturday

today millions of people around the globe marched against war. here in pt there were rallies in the 4 major cities. the british PM approval rating is at an all time low. so is ours.

figured out how i was breaking balsa, and mostly why. booo.

20030214 friday

my config breaks cvs balsa. not only i can't figure out *why* it breaks but also exactly *how* it breaks. not happy fun.

20030213 thursday

decided i slaked enough and the treo needs a serial port bridge.

mike: you'll be allright

20030212 midweek

SG-1, GR, et al. don't you wub shorthanding ?
not only that but, do you want to play a game of gulf war 2 ?

today's episode of The Education of Max Bickford was particularly good. it depicted winning without fighting. I wish I could do it more often.

20030211 tuesday

this commute home was very uneventfull. and yes that is remarkable

clau got me a swatch skin .beat. it's schweeeeeet. however, i can't add a link here cause swatch's site well, blows dead bears (that's the technical term yeah)

did i mention balsa-2.0.7 is out ? i guess not :)

20030210 monday

monday. work. also i can feel tax season creaping up on me. did i mention the company i work for magicly (well, not magicly) went from 400 people to 11500 in the end of last year ?

also, did i mention shaver's links rule ?

20030209 sunday

blah blah blah usual sunday stuff

20030208 saturday

huau. answering email was the nearest to productive i was today.

people of the world, let me reassure you the portuguese government doesn't speak for the people in the iraq affair. we didn't vote for war on iraq at all costs. the declarations of a minister in germany today certainly do not reflect the general opinion as his party got under 10% in the last election. the President as already bitchslaped (well, maybe not on this terms) the PM.
that had to be said.

20030207 friday

building gnome2.2 stuff in rh8.0 is humm, hard :\ ggarrr

updated the CVs and stuff. why ? no particular reason no particular reason.

20030206 thursday

one of the things i like best about GR is it reminds me people do die in war. it does that mostly by geting my team killed.

20030205 midweek

assembled a crip. all it need was something like 15kg of strenght and a screwdriver. not only that but also watched SG1 (god i want an sg1 mod for GR), did a GR firefight *and* figured out what was going on with my little app. turned out treos have *12* serial ports (as oposed to 2 or 4 on other devices) and it was overflowing the static buffer i shamefully allocated. of course, the debuger said something altogether diferent.

20030204 tuesday

watched x-files on tape. played a GR mission. stared at my palmos code.

20030203 monday

the x-box is now bleeding over 1 billion usd per year. i can't believe it's not butter!
i wonder if www.allianz.pt is another victim of the slammer ? only microsoft support knows. ta da da duuuummmmm

so, my simple serial port enumerator works on the palm emulator with all images i have and on my old palmIII but says "fatal exception" on the treo. this is very very weak. i wonder if there's some magic dust you have to sprinkle on you source. or if handspring's gcc build for windows has magic dust sprinkled over it. or if my code simply has issues.

20030202 sunday

stoped being a slacker and updated gnome-pilot's translation despite the fact I can't actually build it in any of my systems.
not only that but about 2 hours of looking at docs and copying bits of code resulted in a palm app that looks at the serial drivers and crashes trying to write about it. i *always* hated the UI side of things

at this moment i'm watching people talking about modular robots. tapeworms made out of several similar bits. just like in Rama.

20030201 saturday

got some screen protectors for the treo. 'dork' i can hear you screaming, but remember this - it's a phone. fat greasy fingers find their way to its screen - it's not a pretty picture.
anyways, obviosuly i couldn't find any treo specific ones so i got m500s. it works pretty well if you don't mind cutting them down to the correct size.

something really bad happened today. godspeed.
